Import existing Skills

If you already store Skills in tool directories, Skills Hub can discover and import them. You can then organize and distribute them from one library.

Discovery does not import automatically

The app scans enabled discovery directories and reports importable Skills. Scanning finds candidates. It does not automatically take ownership of every result. A candidate directory must contain SKILL.md.

The app performs the import only after you confirm it. A difference between discovered and managed counts does not mean that files are missing. Scanning again does not automatically duplicate managed content.

Review and import candidates

  1. Open the discovered-Skills notice in My Skills.
  2. Review candidate names, source tools, and directories.
  3. Select the Skills you want to manage.
  4. Read the import prompt and confirm.
  5. Return to My Skills and check the records and tool status.

Confirm that each candidate contains the version you want to keep. Matching names do not prove that sources match. If content conflicts, compare the files before taking action. Do not overwrite a directory only to make the import succeed.

If identical content already exists in central storage, the app can reuse its managed record. Different content still needs review. If an import has no recorded Git source, do not assume that it can update from a remote Git repository.

Choose discovery directories

  1. Open scan settings from Settings or the discovery notice.
  2. Review the actual directories in the list.
  3. Enable the directories you want to scan.
  4. Save and check the refreshed results.

The app keeps these settings across restarts. Disabling a scan source does not delete Skills or remove existing tool distribution. Some tools share a directory, so interpret discovery sources by their actual paths.

If an expected Skill is missing

Check that:

  • The directory contains SKILL.md, not only an ordinary readme.
  • The tool is installed and has created its directory.
  • The directory is enabled for scanning.
  • The Skill is not already managed in the library.

For an arbitrary local folder, use local installation. You do not need to copy it into a tool directory first. After import, organize tags or distribute to more tools.
